9to5Toys’ take

Summer is officially upon us, and although it took much longer than expected to open and balance my salt chlorinated pool, I was able to easily clean and maintain it well before I ever went in, thanks to the Aquasense 2 Ultra robotic pool cleaner from Beatbot.

As you may recall, I reviewed the Aquasense Pro last summer, and it was my favorite tech product of 2024. As an encore, Beatbot has upgraded the technology and 5-in-1 cleaning capabilities in the Aquasense 2 Ultra, which features some impressive upgrades like a HybridSense Pool Mapping AI camera.

The unboxing and assembly were easy, but as you’ll see in my video review below, there are many different pieces, including some bonus accessories.

This top-of-the-line pool robot can roam, scrub, and vacuum your pool’s floor, walls, surface, and waterline, and has a water clarification system that can be deployed through the app to clear up any cloudy water. Clarification refills are sold separately.

After unwrapping the Beatbot AquaSense 2 Ultra and all its components, I installed said water clarifier by simply uncapping and unwrapping it before popping it right in the top front compartment.

Next, I had to install the side brushes, a new feature on the AquaSense 2 Ultra. This industry-first feature from Beatbot works in sync with the robot’s main roller brushes to ensure every corner and edge of your pool wall is cleaned. The elastic brushes wrap around each rotor and are secured by a tab. The kit also came with two extra brushes.

A new accessory that didn’t come with my Beatbot Aquasense Pro last year is a protective case that came compactly folded up within itself. When unwrapped, it becomes a weather-proof cover that can be drawn tight with a string at the bottom to keep dirt and critters out. It also features a side storage pouch I used to house the gathering hook, extra brushes, and the included screwdriver.

Once it was time to get this new pool robot on the charger stand, I just plugged it in and placed the Aquasense 2 Ultras atop it. The robot’s charging progress is indicated by a pulsing light bar that eventually turns solid green.

While the robot charged, I connected it to my existing Beatbot app, which gave me no trouble at all. You can choose and monitor each cleaning session from the app, track past cleans, activate the water clarifier, or moor (dock) the robot early if needed. Here’s a look at the different clean modes you can choose from:

To begin, you select from Floor Mode, Standard Mode, Pro Mode, or Custom Mode, which you can configure in the Beatbot App.

With the Beatbot AquaSense 2 Ultra fully charged, you can park it poolside and turn it on with the power button before selecting one of the cleaning modes pictured above. As you’ll see in my video, I had trouble seeing if the buttons were glowing in the sunlight, so I had to cover them up with my hands to ensure the robot was on and a cleaning mode was selected.

Once you’ve selected your mode, you can put the Aquasense 2 Ultra in the water and let it do its thing with its 11 motors.

Since I tend to run the robot every few days, I usually use Pro mode, which takes the longest (3-4 hours) but offers the deepest clean of all my pool areas. The bot starts each session using its AI camera to map and clean all the floors.

What’s unique about the top-tier Beatbot AquaSense 2 Ultra is that it utilizes ultrasonic sensors, infrared sensors, and an advanced AI camera to identify debris that may have been missed during the initial cleaning and comes back for it. Furthermore, it can learn to recognize different types of leaves and continually improve its detection capabilities over time.

My pool has a shallow sun shelf with a couple of steps, and my past pool vacuums have really struggled because they could not recognize the steps or climb them. However, the Aquasense 2 Ultra can regulate buoyancy and propel itself up. That isn’t to say it made it all the way up on the first try, but the robot can eventually climb each step and ensure all the floors have been cleaned.

After the robot cleans the entire floor, it transitions to the pool’s walls and waterline. I recommend watching my video below to see this thing scale vertically and breach the water without slipping. It’s pretty incredible.

Lastly, the Pro cleaning cycle includes a thorough skim of the water’s surface, which is also fun to watch because the robot can jet around pretty quickly and leave a little bit of a wake behind it. Another cool feature is manual control of the Beatbot AquaSense 2 Ultra. If you see debris the robot missed, like a leaf, for example, you can remotely control the robot through the app, which is quite fun.

The only time I could not connect to the robot from the Beatbot app was when it was deep underwater, cleaning the floors. So, if you need to end a session early (say a storm is rolling in), you may have to deploy the gathering hook if you don’t have the connection to request it to dock.

Speaking of docking, when the cleaning session is complete or the battery drops below 15%, the Beatbot Aquasense 2 Ultra has a surface parking system that enables it to float and moor itself near the pool edge for easy retrieval.

Grab it, pull it out, and leave it hanging off the pool edge for a second while its Smartdrain water release system kicks in to lighten the load. If you’d rather not bend over or need to end a session early, you can use the hook that can easily snag the robot’s handle for retrieval.

After each session, it’s essential to empty the robot’s baskets of debris and spray them clean with a hose, and it couldn’t be easier. Once clean, reconnect the two baskets and pop them back into the robot. Then it’s back onto the charger to replenish before the cleaning session.

Overall, I already loved my Aquasense Pro, but the Beatbot Aquasense 2 Ultra is the pinnacle of robotic pool cleaning. I recommend it to any pool owner because of its advanced technology, effective cleaning protocols, and, perhaps more importantly, its ease of use.

Cleaning and clarifying your entire pool can be as simple as pressing two buttons and placing your Beatbot in the water. The app is also highly convenient when you’re not poolside, allowing you to track the cleaning progress and control your robot remotely.

The AquaSense 2 Ultra is on the pricier side, but keep in mind that it’s a top-of-the-line model and could be the best on the market. To me, it’s worth the price for the quality clean you get and the time it saves you every single session. This could very well end up being my favorite piece of tech for 2025 as well.
