The My Nintendo Store Switch 2 pre-order invites have gone out and that means the first chance to score one of the new wireless GameCube controllers has too, but the actual Switch Online GameCube library won’t launch until June 5 when the Switch 2 does. Nintendo announced that it would be bringing GameCube to its classics library for Switch Online + Expansion Pack members alongside the Switch 2, but there are a few things you need to know about it and we’ll have a look at all of the games we know are coming to the service thus far down below.
Switch 2 GameCube library
Firstly, the GameCube Nintendo Classics library is not only just for Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers, but it is also only available on Nintendo Switch 2. This means that even if you are a paid Switch Online + Expansion Pack member but don’t have a Switch 2, you can’t access the GameCube games – they are only available to Switch 2 owners. Okay, that sucks, but I guess Nintendo is just trying add extra value and more content to its next-generation platform.
The same applies to the wireless GameCube controller – it is only for Switch 2.
But let’s talk about the good stuff…the games.
Here are the games that folks who are already Switch Online + ExpansionPack and soon-to-be Switch 2 owners can play otherwise for FREE to their heart’s content once their console arrives.
As of right now, Nintendo has only officially announced three GameCube titles that will be available on day 1 (June 5): The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, Soulcalibur 2, and F-Zero GX. I guess we were all just hoping Nintendo would remake Wind Waker for Switch 2 instead, but this is a start, a light one with only three titles, but it will clearly be adding titles regularly much like it has for the NES, SNES, N64, and SEGA Switch Online libraries.
All of that said, Nintendo did show off a slew of other titles that are coming to the GameCube library as well – we just don’t know when. These titles were shown as part of the official GameCube Switch Online announcement and the like, so it’s safe to assume they are likely up next, or at some point anyway.
The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker
Soulcalibur 2
F-Zero GX
Super Mario Sunshine
Super Mario Strikers
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
Luigi’s Mansion
Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness
Pokemon Colosseum
Chibi-Robo
